How To Install Floor, Walls And Ceiling for Camper Van?

Installing walls, ceiling, and floor in a camper van is a crucial part of the conversion process. It provides insulation and creates a comfortable living space. In this step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the process of installing walls, ceiling, and floor in your camper van using plywood sheets, insulation, adhesive, screws, and carpet or vinyl flooring. With a little bit of time and effort, you can transform your van into a cozy and practical home on wheels.

(You can also use tongue and groove for the walls and ceiling however we didn’t so we cant help you with that!)

First! You need to install your insulation- Click here for complete guide on how to insulate your van.

What You Will Need(What we used)

Tools:

  • Jig Saw

  • Tape measure

  • Drill

  • Pencil

  • Card Board(will be explained later)

  • Scissors

Materials:

  • Plywood Sheets

We Personally used 12mm for the floor and 3mm for walls and ceiling. But this can be your personal preference, just make sure to factor in the weight of material and how strong it needs to be.

Step 1

Start by measuring the interior of your van's floor. Use a tape measure to get accurate measurements of each section. Once you have your measurements, transfer them onto the plywood sheets and cut them using a circular saw or jigsaw. This is where the card board and scissors might come in handy.

Around the awkward shapes of the van(for example, the wheal arch) you can use the card board to make a template which can then be transferred onto the plywood. It’s better to get it wrong on card board rather than your expensive wood!

Step 2

Starting with the floor, it's time to install the plywood sheets. Use screws and to attach the plywood sheets to the wooden battens that you hopefully put down when insulating the van. Be sure to secure the plywood sheets properly to prevent any movement while driving.
